[Class 141] [See also Group XIV] A child carrier adapted to be worn upon a person's back in the manner of a rucksack, comprises a rigid metal frame having back and front members 5, 12, respectively, between which a seat 22 is supported, and shoulder straps 29 for supporting the frame upon the wearer. The upper ends 6 of the back members 5 form side rails for the seat, and the members 5 are spaced apart by means of a strip 9 which carries a seat back 11. The lower extremities of the front members 12 are riveted or otherwise secured at 23 to the lower ends of the back members 5, and to a separate structure which includes a U-shaped strip 24 adapted partially to encircle the wearer's waist, and reinforced by means of another U-shaped strip 25 to the limbs of which the front members 12 are attached. The lower structure may be provided at each side with a foot rest constituted by integral extensions 27 of the members 5, the ends of the extensions 27 being secured at 28 to the U-shaped strip 24. Each of the shoulder straps 29 is attached at one end to the upper part of the frame, and at the other end to the U-shaped strip 24. In addition, back straps which extend between the carrier and the wearer's back, may be provided. The ends of the strip 24 may be connected by means of a flexible band 30 which is adapted to engage across the wearer's back, and is supplemented by, or forms part of, a waistbelt 31.
