Abstract
447,116. Pistons; stuffing-box substitutes. FRANKS, E. A., 5, Caegwyn Road, Whitchurch, Glamorgan. Dec. 20, 1934, No. 31116. [Classes 122 (i) and 122 (v)] [See also Groups XXVIII and XXXIV] A fuel-injection pump comprises a plunger 1 which is a loose fit in the cylinder 2 and is integral with a larger plunger 3. Fuel is drawn through the port 6 and delivered into the annular space around the plunger 1 and also through the valve 9 into the passage 10. The cam 26 actuating the plungers is shaped so that the plungers remain at the end of the suction stroke for a much longer period than that taken to effect the discharge stroke and a throttle passage 11a between the chamber 10 and the cylinder 2 is of such length and diameter that the fuel may fill cylinder 2 during suction but does not escape during the discharge stroke. Two plungers 1, 1<1> are connected to the same space 4 and the delivery and timing is controlled by adjusting the phase relationship between the two plungers.
