Abstract
447,056. Valves. HOLFORD, H. J., 2, Brookvale Road, Southampton, and STRAY, A. M., 74, Coleman Street, London. Nov. 6, 1934, No. 31926. [Class 135] [See also Group I] In a water-waste-preventer in which a piston 38 operating in a cylinder supports a dischargevalve 40, the latter is raised when water is admitted from the supply-line, on the operation of a valve 18, by a pipe 45 passing through an opening in the cylinder-wall below the piston, an aperture 44 being provided in the cylinderwall above the piston to permit the latter to rise and a byepass vent 48 being provided in the piston. The valve is carried by a rod 25 screwed into a boss on the piston and pass through a gland 23 in the bottom of the cylinder ; the latter is supported by a casing having slots 34 arranged to impart a vorticular flow to the flush. The valve is normally maintained seated by a spring 42 arranged between the piston and the roof of the cylinder. A pipe 37 provides an outlet for excess water in the event of continued depression of the plunger of the actuating valve 18.
