Abstract

433,803. Purifying exhaust gases. RICHARDSON, F. H., Stockbridge House, Ulverston, Lancashire. April 6, 1934, No. 10394. [Class 7 (ii)] For purifying the exhaust gases, air is mixed therewith by a device consisting of a pipe formed with a number of openings provided with inturned lips, so that air is drawn in from the atmosphere to mingle with the gases. The Figure shows such a device 1 attached at 3 to the exhaust pipe 2, and formed with holes 4 and slits 5 having inturned lips 6, 7 which tend to prevent escape of the exhaust gases and to draw in air from the atmosphere. The end of the pipe 1 is preferably provided with tapered spiral fingers 8, which may however be omitted at the underside. A casing 10 may be arranged around all or a part of the openings 4, 5, a cap 11 on the end of the casing being in the form of a number of springy fingers 12 divided from each other by air gaps. The casing may also be provided with a flange 15 at the other end, and be further secured by rods 16.
