[Class 132 (iii)] [See also Groups XVIII and XXXVIII] A plurality of automata having their limbs &c. actuated by bellows connected to a pneumatic pressure source and controlled by a moving perforated strip, are combined with a gramophone which can be adjusted to register with the movements of the automata, the mechanism being automatically reversed after the strip has finished its traverse to bring the parts to the starting position and repeat. The bellows may form part of the joints of the automata and the arms, legs, &c. 72 themselves form the conducting pipes, strips of leather 76, Fig. 15, being attached to allow expansion of the concertina-form joint in one direction only. Two joints, with strips 76<1> displaced relatively to the strips 76, are provided when motion in more than one direction is desired, tubes 75, 75<1> bringing pressure to one or the other bellows joint. Fingers of a hand thus constructed may be made to pick up articles. Bellows or piston and cylinder mechanism may be provided for moving an automaton bodily over a platform, and parts of an automaton may be inflatable directly. A construction is described in which an automaton rises from and reverts to a sitting posture. Specification 382,475 is referred to.
