Abstract
436,520. Road vehicles. CHRYSLER CORPORATION, 341, Massachusetts Avenue, Highland Park, Michigan, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Breer, C.) April 9, 1934, No. 10659. Convention date, June 8, 1933. [Class 108 (i)] [See also Group XXXI] A closed body for a motor car comprises a rearward compartment and a pair of laterally spaced hollow beam structures extending upwardly and rearwardly from the front end portion of the body at least as far as the rear compartment and preferably the whole length of the vehicle. The body comprises side panels 11 extending from front to rear, the upper portions of which are bent over and connected transversely, preferably by welding, by a central roof panel 16 extending from the windshield 17 to the rear, by a cowl panel 14 and at the extreme front by a cross member 12. The cowl therefore comprises the panel 14 and side portions which extend forwardly to the front of the car. The arcuate side portions 29 of the cowl are bent inwardly as at 39, Fig. 2, and are connected to the chassis 40 by side plates 41 welded to the part 39 at 42 and extending upwardly to the top of the side portions 29 near the edge 36 of the engine opening of the cowl. Compartments 43 are so formed in which are housed the headlights 60-62 and a tank 45 having portions 46, 47 for water and lubricant, such portions having filling spouts and connections to the engine 32 and radiator 33. The engine compartment cover 34 is shaped as shown in Fig. 4 and is provided with a stiffening rib 75, Fig. 5, and a doubled flange 78 to hold anchor pins 77 adapted to enter apertures 80 in the ledges 36 and provided with rubber &c. collars 81. The wheel housings extend partly within the cowl and comprise wings 65, panels 39 and side plates 41 together with plates 71 adapted to be bolted over an extended aperture in the side plates 41 which aperture permits access to the engine valves when the wheel and the plate 71 are removed.
