Abstract

435,402. Squirting. BUSSE, O., Neheimon-Ruhr, Germany. March 17, 1934, No. 8469. [Class 83 (iv)] The residue of an extruded billet is left in the press for extrusion with the next billet, and is lifted from the matrix until the commencement of the next extruding operation. In an indirect press wherein a billet is extruded through a die 3, Fig. 2, on a ram 2 by movement of a container 1, the movement being produced by a member 4 carrying a closure disc preferably with electric heating means 11, after retraction of the member 4 the container 1 is moved a short distance in the same direction to lift the residue 6 from the die 3. A billet 7 is then placed in position, and the container moved rearwardly over it in readiness for the next operation. The press is of the type wherein a shell 6<1> is formed during extrusion, which is subsequently severed from the residue. The constriction 5 supporting the die is preferably flared outwardly to retain the residue until it is engaged by the new billet 7. In a vertical, direct-acting tube press, the ram 2, Fig. 5, has an extension 9 thereon, and the mandrel 8 has a conically flared extension 10 so that the residue is drawn up away from the die on retraction of the ram. The container 1 is flared above the die 3 to check the movement of the residue.
