Abstract
434,502. Mountings for optical instruments. BARR & STROUD, Ltd., and MACGILL, C. D., Caxton Street, Anniesland, Glasgow. April 18, 1934, No. 11642. [Class 97 (i)] An optical observation instrument, e.g. a rangefinder or height finder, and the mounting in which it is adjustable in elevation are turnable together in azimuth under control of below waist movements of a standing observer. As shown a control arm C over which the observer stands astride, is pivoted at 2 to the mounting B rotatable in azimuth and carrying a rangefinder A. The arm C is urged to take up a vertical position when not in use by a counterweight 3, or by tension or torsion springs. A dashpot may be provided and the arm C may be in two parts hinged together. Alternatively the mounting may have a pair of arms forming a fork in which the observer stands or a single arm terminating in a fork which embraces one thigh. Adjustments to suit the height or girth of the observer may be provided.
