[Class 38 (ii)] [See also Group XL] In converters comprising gaseous discharge devices in which initiation of current flow therein does not depend solely on the anode potential (e.g. grid-regulated rectifiers, inverters, or time - base generators for cathoderay oscillographs) and in which a condenser is charged or discharged through the gaseous device on initiation of current flow therein, there is inserted in series with the condenser inductance sufficient to reduce substantially the current through the gaseous device during the early part of its conducting period with the object of reducing ionic bombardment of the cathode. Fig. 1 shows a parallel-type inverter with the inductance L2 according to the invention inserted in series with the commutating condenser. Fig. 3, shows a grid-regulated rectifier with the inductance L2 in series with a smoothing condenser. Fig. 2 shows a time-base generator for a cathode-ray oscillograph in which the inductance L2 is inserted in series with the condenser C which is charged through the resistance R and discharged through the gaseous device V on arrival of a synchronizing impulse at its grid.
