Abstract

421,600. Valves. WILSON, N. B., South Essex Waterworks, Langham, near Colchester, and KENT, Ltd., G., 199, High Holborn, London. June 24, 1933, No. 18080. [Class 135] A tap or cock which allows only a predetermined flow of fluid for a single actuation of the operating rod 2 however long the said rod is maintained in the valve-opening position has a floating lever 1 which is pivoted at one end to the rod 2, at the other end to a reaction device and intermediately to the valve spindle 10. The reaction device may be an escapement mechanism as shown in Fig. 2 or a dashpot. When the knob 3 is pushed inwardly, the valve 11 is opened against the fluid pressure in the inlet 5, the lever pivoting about the point x and the reaction device remaining substantially stationary. Subsequently the reaction device yields at a predetermined rate due to the inlet pressure acting to close the valve, the lever 1 pivoting about the point y. If the knob 3 is released before the time interval of the reaction device has elapsed, the valve closes immediately. The escapement mechanism, Fig. 2, comprises a rack 14 connected to a spring 18, and a pinion 15 fast with an escapement wheel 16 which has an escapement lever 17.
