Abstract

429,484. Non-return valves. BAKER, R. C., Coalinga, California, U.S.A. Nov. 23, 1934, No. 33698. [Class 135] [See also Group XXI] In rotary well-drilling apparatus, between joint members 11, 12, of the drill string is arranged a body 10 with a box 14 receiving the pin 15 of the upper joint member and a chamber 18 and shoulder 19 below the box ; a spider 23 rests on shoulder 19 and has an extension 23<a> passing through a guide 25 of a valve cage 20 pressed upwardly by a spring 28, while a weaker spring 29 presses a valve 22 against a seat 21<a>, the valve having a stem 27 passing through extension 23a. A gasket 21 is fitted in the valve cage 20 between the cage and either the pin 15 or the body 10. On lowering the drill string, fluid below the valve relieves the load. Afterwards, the spring 29 yields to allow downward passage of flushing fluid.
