Abstract
428,978. Lamp-failure alarms; road signals for controlling traffic. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. June 9, 1934, No. 17146. Convention date, June 9, 1933. [Class 118 (ii)] In a road-traffic signalling installation an additional warning lamp is flashed if one of the signal lamps, or, in the case of double filament lamps, if one of the filaments, burns out. The amber signal lamps may be flashed in addition to the warning lamp. As shown in the Figures the groups of lamps I, II, and III corresponding to the three phases of traffic control are lit in turn under control of switch 23. A relay 25 is in series with the switch and this relay is energized so long as all the lamps in the group in use are burning. Should one or more of the lamps fail, the current through the relay falls and the armature 34 is released to make contacts 27, 29 so that the auxiliary warning lamp 14 is connected up and is flashed by flasher 32. If required the amber lamps Y can also be flashed under these conditions by making the connection shown as 35.
