Abstract

428,819. Hinges. SHEPHERD, O. M., 3, Clitherow Court, Boston Manor Road, Brentford, and KEITH - THOMAS, Ltd., C., India Works, Exhibition Grounds, Wembley, both in Middlesex. Nov. 8, 1934, No. 32167. [Class 65 (ii)] Small fancy boxes have the lid 2 hinged to the body 1 by a rib 4 on the lid engaging a recess 8 on the body and being retained therein by a resilient tongue 9. The rib has at the inner side a recessed flat 7 to accommodate the tongue when the lid is in the closed position. A cam portion 15 on the rib causes the lid to snap to the open and closed positions. To prevent the rib being levered out when the lid is in the open position the lid is formed with an outer recess 16 shaped so that contact is made with the outer face of the body at such a position 17 that the rib is pulled into the hinge recess 8. The lid and body are moulded from material such as ebonite or any phenolic condensation products, the rib and tongue being integral with their respective part.
