Abstract
428,194. Centrifugal guns. POWELL, B. F. S. BADEN-, Brooklands House, Riverhead, Sevenoaks, Kent. Nov. 2, 1934, No. 31486. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to centrifugal guns of the type in which the projectiles f Fig. 2, are discharged through a rotating barrel or barrels c opening out of a cylindrical chamber b concentric with the axis of rotation b<5>. According to the invention, the chamber is continuously circular except where it is tangentially gapped to form the breech of each barrel, and a feed opening is provided for depositing the projectiles against the circular wall in the path of a fixed impeller d which pushes them round the wall and into the breech. The projectiles are guided into the breech by a projecting piece b<3> which is gapped at b<4> to allow the impeller to pass. The projectiles are carried in a rotary magazine e, Fig. 6, with radial spring-fed compartments e<3> and pass into the chamber b through a gap d<2> in a stationary plate d<1> which carries the impeller d. A spring-controlled cut-off d<3> may be provided in the gap. The feed may be controlled by a radially-vaned member g rotated by a wheel g<2> gearing with a worm-like rib g<4> on the interior of the chamber b. Fig. 8 shows a barrel i<1> formed of a bent tube the upper half of the tube being cut away at one end to form the chamber i which receives the impeller depending from the stationary cover plate.
