Abstract

427,936. Filters. HENRY, F. G., 2727, North 13th Street, Philadelphia, U.S.A. June 27, 1934, No. 19032. [Class 46] The liquid filtered inward through an endless belt 32, as it passes round a perforated rotary cylinder 16, is discharged through a hood 20; which extends along the peripheral wall of the drum between the points where the band is looped on and away from it. The band passes also round rolls 29, 31, 26, the apparatus being arranged in a casing 5 with a removable cover 6. The interior of the casing is divided by a vertical wall 9 into a filtering-compartment 13 and a compartment 54 for receiving material separated from the belt by a washing device 46. The liquid under treatment is supplied to the compartment 13 and is maintained therein to the level of the top of the wall 9. The filtrate passes away through the collector hood 20, a discharge leg 23, and a pipe 24. The filter band has metal bound edges with eyelets which engage with sprocket wheels on the ends of the roller 29. The roller 29 is driven from an electric motor by worm reducing gearing. The same motor drives a pump which draws a small amount of filtrate from the bottom of the leg 23 and forces it to a hollow washing shoe 46 the underside of which is perforated and grooved. The band is supported as it passes the washing shoe by a grate 56 formed of bars which converge towards the centre line of the grate and serve to keep the belt in correct position. A scraper blade 52 is associated with the washing device. The solid matter is discharged from the compartment 54 through a valve 63, and liquid separating in the compartment rises through a baffled passage 65 and returns over the wall 9 into the compartment 13. Air under pressure to aid filtration may be supplied to the upper part of the casing.
