Abstract
427,574. Liquid - break switches. DAVIES, D. R., 14, Ruabon Road, Didsbury, near Manchester, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Jan. 8, 1934, No. 713. [Class 38 (v)] An explosion pot comprises a casting 1 supporting a fixed socket contact 11, which extends downwards into proximity with the insulating wall 2 having a central aperture 9 through which the movable contact 10 extends. One or more passages 12 are formed in the wall 2 so as to direct insulating fluid, such as oil, from the pot into the arc path as the contact 10 is being withdrawn, and valve or shutter means operated under control of or by the contact 10 prevent discharge of fluid until the contact-separation has reached a predetermined value. As shown, the shutters comprise insulating rods 14, pins, or blades, attached to the carrier 15 of contact 10 so as to move therewith, and passing through apertures 13 which intersect the passages 12. The preferred moment of discharge is when the parts have reached the dotted position shown and the arc has been drawn through the orifice 9.
