Abstract
427,475. Making rotary engines and pumps. CAPPS, A. W., Fairbourne, Clatterfield Gardens, Westcliff-on-Sea. Oct. 13, 1933, Nos. 28281 and 28678. [Class 83 (ii)] [See also Group XXVI] In a rotary engine or pump of the internallymeshing-screw type, the threads are in the form of epi-cycloidal and hypo-cycloidal curves. The Figure shows the invention as an internal-combustion engine, or being reversed and modified, the apparatus may act as a compressor. The core 20 may be made : (a) by screwing together short sections of constant pitch, but each section progressively changing in its pitch ; (b) by milling with an attachment fixed on the slide-rest of a lathe ; (c) by expanding a tube hydraulically or by forging. The tube 28 may be made by inserting a finished core 20 within a split tube and filling in with wax or plaster. The split tube is removed and metal is deposited electrically or by spraying, on the wax. After machining the exterior, circular plates, for cooling fins, are fitted and the wax dissolved out. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to U.S.A. Specification 1,892,217.
