Abstract
411,956. Moulding and vulcanizing rubber. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., 32, Osnaburgh Street, London, and NORCROSS, T., Fort Dunlop, Birmingham. Jan. 17, 1933, No. 1517. [Classes 70 and 87 (ii).] Moulding and vulcanizing apparatus comprises at least two fixed abutments spaced to form a gap into which a mould is entered by a lateral movement, with little if any clearance, and an inflatable envelope is provided to submit the mould to pressure in the gap. A pair of pillars 1, 2 have fixed between them a number of members 3 between which are gaps 7 into which can be slid moulds 8<a>, 8<b>. Housed in recesses of the members 3 are inflatable envelopes 5 with overlying plates 6, whereby the moulds may be submitted to pressure when in position. The moulds may be provided with steam chambers as shown, or separate steam chests may be interposed between the moulds and members 3. The envelope may be carried by one of the mould members, heating may be by electricity, and the member 3 may constitute one of the mould halves.
