[Class 100 (ii).] In a machine for etching safety razor blades in strip form, the strip is coiled upon a rotatable member from whence it is drawn between rollers supplied with etching fluid and carrying the appropriate subscription and then through a bath of paraffin to remove surplus etching fluid and to prevent rust, the speed of movement therethrough being suitably controlled. The support for the strip x is a turntable 1 on which the strip is coiled and from which it passes through a guide 5 to the printing rollers 4, a toothed wheel 18 being provided for cooperating with apertures in the strip to effect the feed. The guide 5 and wheel 18 may be duplicated on the other side of the rollers 4, and these rollers and the wheels 18 are positively driven from a main drive shaft. The rollers 4 are formed with tapered shafts for adjustment purposes and the printing-surfaces are coated with acid from absorbent rollers 16, 17, by transfer rollers 9, which are adjustably mounted relatively to the rollers 4 on pivoted and weighted levers 10, 11. After printing, the strip x passes to a tank 22 containing paraffin, the speed of movement therethrough being controlled by means of positively driven rollers 23, the upper one of which is carried on a pivoted lever 24 and may be raised out of contact with the strip x when the speed is too slow. The strip is finally rewound upon a drum 32 or passes direct from the rollers 23 to the grinders and other devices for completing the manufacture of the blades.
