Abstract

410,703. Making projectiles. RHEINISCHE METALLWAAREN - UND MASCHINENFABRIK, 195, Ulmenstrasse, and SCHULER, H., 55, Baumstrasse, both in D³sseldorf, Germany. Dec. 13, 1933, No. 35083. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii).] The charge a of a high-explosive shell, of small calibre, is first moulded at a pressure of about 3000 atmospheres to a diameter smaller than that of the core of the shell and of somewhat greater length than the space x. After insertion, without a liner, the shell is heated to a temperature of about 50 to 60‹ C., and the charge consolidated at a pressure of about 400 atmospheres. Thin perforated cardboard discs d and a brass closing- disc e are fitted between the charge and the plug c. Clearance y is left under the shoulder of the plug to permit of further compression of the charge.
