418,879. Hair-waving appliances. McDONOUGH, E. G., 472, Gramatan Avenue, Mount Vernon, New York, U.S.A. Dec. 12, 1933, Nos. 34970, 34971, and 34972. Convention dates, Jan. 4, 1933. [Class 131.] A pad for use in heating a pre-formed tress of hair exothermically comprises a perforated envelope 2 of impervious material, e.g. foil, containing an appropriate chemical, a sheet 7 adapted to be adhered to the face of the envelope 2 to seal temporarily the perforations 4, and a sheet 6 of absorbent material adapted to be moistened and folded or placed over the perforated face of the envelope after the sheet 7 is removed. The envelope 2 is attached to a sheet 5 of impervious material, e.g. foil, secured to an outer wrapper 1 comprising a folded sheet of impervious material, e.g. parchment paper or foil. The sheet 7 may be loose, or may consist of a foldable flap, e.g. an extension of the sheet 5, may be provided with perforations which do not align with the perforations 4, and may be covered by an additional flap, which may be perforated. The sheet or flap 7, or the additional flap is replaced upon the moistened sheet 6 before the pad is wrapped around the tress.
