Abstract

418,611. Incandescent electric igniters. AC SPARK PLUG CO., Flint, Michigan, U.S.A. July 18, 1933, No. 20245. Convention date, July 21, 1932. [Class 7 (iv).] The filament 12 is secured at points not exposed to the products of combustion. The end 15 is soldered &c. to the outer end of the bore of the metallic core 1 or to the cap 10 ; the other extremity 13 is welded, staked or otherwise secured at the inner end of the bore 14 in the casing 2. The helical portion is either free, as shown, or rests in a groove in the core which may be enamelled or oxidized to provide insulation. If the entire surface of the core is so coated, mica insulation may be dispensed with. The helix may be mounted on a block of porcelain or other insulation separate from the main insulator supporting the core in the casing. Axial pressure may be exerted on the casing to force a heated portion 11 laterally against the central members of the plug.
