Abstract

418,406. Yarn binding and severing means in cop-winding machines; cop tubes. REINERS, W., 214, Bahnstrasse, Gladbach, Munich, Germany. Oct. 27, 1933, No. 29868. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1932. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii).] A method of fastening the end of the yarn or thread of a cop after winding the same in a threadwinding machine consists in fastening the yarn to the cop or cop tube and to the spindle by mechanical means. The thread guide 6, when the cop has been wound, may be caused to move rapidly from the head of the cop to the foot of the tube, laying on a few turns 21 of coarse pitch until it reaches the foot of the tube, where one or two turns 22 are made ; thence proceeding alongside the spindle or spindle hub where some more turns 25 are wound on. Alternatively, after completion of the cop, a few close turns 23 may be wound at the tip of the cone, either on the cop or cop tube or on a holder which may include a rubber ring 16, Fig. 22, or a spring loaded cap 18, Fig. 21, the yarn being then carried along the cop making a few steep turns 21, and in some cases a few close turns 24 also, before being led to the foot of the cop and to the spindle. The foot of the cop tube is provided with notches 12 or projections 14, Figs. 12, 14, or gripper devices, which may be merely a sharp groove 9 or a shallower groove with a rubber ring 15 therein, Fig. 16, to engage the yarns in advance of the point of anchorage to the spindle. The hub of the spindle may be provided with longitudinally extending notches to allow the coils of yarn thereon to be severed by inserting a knife therein. Alternatively, a reciprocable cutter, hand operated through rack and pinion mechanism, may be used to sever the coils, the cut portions being removed by a suction fan. A form of mechanism for affecting the motion of the thread guide is shown in Fig. 30. The reciprocation of the thread guide 6 is effected by cam C and rack and pinion mechanism 54, 55 weight-biassed at 52. The spindle 3 is driven by a friction wheel 41 operated by a shaft 42 through a clutch. Handwheels 43, 44 are provided whereby the spindle and the traverse mechanism may be manually operated to effect the additional windings after the cop has been wound, as previously set forth. Specifications 1398/13 and 332,936, [both in Class 120 (ii)], are referred to.
