Abstract
403,696. Inductances. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., JOHNS, J. P., and ROBINSON, G. B., Connaught House, Aldwych, London. June 29, 1932, No. 18346. [Class 37.] In order to prevent the ingress of moisture into loading coil casings, a screwthreaded joint therein is surrounded by a chamber constituted by a recess in the casing or by a separate housing surrounding the joint, the chamber being filled with sealing material. In one construction, the filling aperture is located in a recess in the casing, the plug 2 being seated below the level of the casing, and the recess is filled with a plastic material 3 such as an asphalt compound. Serrations 4 or undercuts in the casing wall prevent the compound from becoming dislodged. The aperture into which the stub nipple is screwthreaded may also be sealed in a recess, or as in Fig. 4, a conical housing 1 in two parts clamps the stub cable in position thus replacing the usual supporting bracket and allowing the housing to be filled with sealing compound poured in at 5. The apertures 5 may also be sealed. The housing 1 is secured to the casing proper by lugs and bolts.
