Abstract
403,175. Corrugating sheet material. GOODRICH CO., B. F., 37, West 60th Street, New York, U.S.A. Aug. 12, 1932, No. 22596. Convention date, Aug. 18, 1931. [Class 141.] Resilient material is made of flexible fibre, such as hair, maintained in thin open-mesh sheet form by an agglutinant uniting the fibres at their crossing portions. In one form the sheet is formed by spreading the fibres upon a flat surface with or without the aid of a carding machine, coating the fibres partially or wholly by spraying with a flexible glue, or nitrocellulose compound, or a rubber composition deposited on the fibres from a rubber cement or from an aqueous dispersion such as latex. After drying the sheet may be further coated with fibres after immersion in a bath of the liquid. The sheet A while it is still tacky is brought to cellular form, e.g. by passing it through a machine having two trays 31, 32, Fig. 2, of rods and two guides 36, 37. Rods are alternately pushed from the top tray down beneath the guides and are brought from the bottom tray on to the top of the guides. The rods are withdrawn and pleated sheets thus formed may be vulcanised and/or built up into a cushion with padding 43, Fig. 1, and a cover 44; the finished cushion may be vulcanised or the vulcanising may take place before padding.
