Abstract
401,988. Discharge tubes. MULLER AKT.-GES., C. H. F., 24, R÷ntgenstrasse, Hamburg, Germany. May 26, 1933, Nos. 15272 and 15273. Convention dates, May 30, 1932 and June 2, 1932. [Class 39 (i).] The movable or rotating anode of a discharge tube such as a R÷ntgen-ray tube is cooled by the radiation of heat to a thermally conducting body, the anode or body being provided with one or more ribshaped annular proj ecting parts engaging with little play in recesses in the anode or body. As shown, ribs 9, 10 and recesses in a copper anticathode 8 and the body 11 interengage one with the other. The anticathode is supported on a glass neck 4 through a ferrochromium body 5. Heat radiation from the inner walls of the anticathode may be increased by providing them with a coating of iron, ferrochromium, sesquioxide of chromium, platinum black, soot or nickel carbide and radiation from the outer surface thereof to the tube walls may be minimised by the provision of a polished coating of chromium or silver or by constructing the body 11 so that it surrounds the anode. The part of the body surrounding the anode is provided with longitudinal cuts to minimise induced currents. Cooling of the anode is further facilitated, when the tube is not in operation, by establishing a direct contact between it and the body 11 by reversing the tube or by means of an electromagnet. The body 5 may be filled with a metal which has a high thermal conductivity and may be cooled by gas or liquid or by a rod projecting therefrom.
