Abstract
400,703. Steam superheaters. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd. and ADAMSON, C., Bush House, Aldwych, London. May 27, 1932, No. 15103. [Class 123 (iii).] Steam superheaters of the kind in which one serpentine element is nested within another comprise an assembly in which each of the two elements 11 is made up of a number of U-loops with widely spaced legs the ends of which are joined by return bends 14, 15, to the legs of adjacent loops forming closely, spaced hairpin loops, the two elements being interdigitated and their inlet and outlet ends being secured in common flange blocks 20, 21, connected to the saturated and superheated steam headers 3, 4. In a modification instead of all the pipe lengths of an assembly lying in the same vertical plane the radius bends and return bends are inclined so that the pipe lengths lie in two vertical planes. Adjacent portions of the elements may be welded at points 23 near the return bends or at intervals in their length or wedges, straps or clips may be employed. The embodiment shown is located in the intake 2 of a Scotch marine boiler, the headers lying in an exterior chamber 7 separated therefrom by plates 9.
