Abstract

400,540. Cycle supports. SILVERSTEIN, S., c/o Gorringes, 9, Green Street, Leicester Square, London. May 9, 1933, No. 13489. [Class 136 (i).] In a support for bicycles, motor-cycles, &c. of the type adapted to be attached between the cranks to the backstay tubes behind the crank bracket and comprising a pair of supporting arms 9 adapted to be spread apart to the supporting position by turning about axes perpendicular to the arms, the arms 9, which carry castor wheels 10, are fixed to a pair of supporting rods 8 projecting downwards from an attachment member 1 and arranged in V-formation with respect to a back stay 20, which is also secured to the member 1 and is connected at its lower end to the rods 8, so as to prevent the latter from being spread apart laterally and from being bent backwards. To enable the support to be adapted to cycles of different sizes, the arms 9 are adjustable on the rods 8 by means of slots 11 and set-screws 12. To spread the arms 9 and bring the wheels 10 into contact with the ground, the rods 8 are rotated by means of bell crank levers 14, Figs. 1 and 4, which are connected by wires 18 to arms 17 on the rods 8, and are actuated by a common Bowden wire or rod 16 leading to a control handle &c. ; the arms 17 are brought back to the normal position against stops 27 by a looped spring 19. The lower end of the stay 20 is provided with a flat plate 24, which bears against the tubular ends 13 of the arms 9 and is apertured to receive rotatably studs on the rods 8.
