Abstract
408,047. Protective cut-out arrangements. WEST & CO., Ltd., A., and WEST, A., Lewes Road, Brighton. Nov. 18, 1932, No. 32669. [Class 38 (v).] Apparatus for establishing the circuit of a translating device, e.g. a motor, comprises a starting element movable to an operative position to establish the circuit, a maintaining element movable thereupon to an operative position for maintaining the circuit so that the starting clement can return to its inoperative position, and means for preventing an overload device from responding to the overload for which it is set during the period at which the starting element is at the operative position. The main contacts 4 .. 6 are closed on energization of a coil 7 by means of the " start " button 13 in series with the trip contact 11, and are maintained by a contact 14. Bimetal elements 8 .. 10 in each line are capable of individually opening at 11 the circuit of coil 7 on overload. During starting, however, any two or all the elements are shorted by and during the depression of button 13 (Fig. 4), which moves a plate 23 common to three contacts 19 so that the latter engage contacts 20, so directly connecting together two plates 16 on an insulating base 18 normally inter-connected by the V-shaped elements as 9. The points of the latter are bent down through apertures into the hollowed-out base and, when deflected, free a catch 26 which moves a common member and opens a switch 11.
