Abstract

407,638. Depositing rubber articles from dispersions &c. McKAY, R. F., Fort Dunlop, Birmingham.-(International Latex Processes, Ltd.; 10, Lefebvre Street, St. Peter's Port, Guernsey.) Oct. 12, 1933, No. 28157. [Classes 70 and 87 (ii).] A method of providing deposited rubber articles with a bead or reinforcement at one or more peripheries of the articles comprises bringing a deposition base having one or more grooves provided with a sharp edge on their outer side into contact with a rubber-containing fluid, particularly rubber latex, under such conditions that rubber collects in the grooves, effecting coagulation of the deposit and dividing the deposited rubber at the sharp edges. As shown a form 21, mounted on a support 20 is provided with a grooved shoulder 22, in the groove of which collects latex 23, the shoulder being bevelled at 24 to make a sharp edge 25 where the deposit is thin. After several dippings and dryings the article is vulcanised on the form and then stripped therefrom, the bead 23 tearing away or being slit from the rubber deposited below the edge 25.
