Abstract
407,531. Electrolysis. SOC. ANON. LE CARBONE, 37, Rue de Paris, Gennevilliers, Seine, France. March 15, 1933, No. 7868. Convention date, April 28, 1932. [Class 41.] Gases or vapours are treated for conversion into other products by passage through a cell comprising a tube a containing a positive electrode c of very porous activated carbon and a perforated negative electrode b of zinc separated by a permeable fabric and connected externally by a wire f of low resistance. Air or oxygen for depolarization is mixed with the gas to be treated or is introduced directly through an orifice o. The fabric d is saturated with an electrolyte such as a concentrated solution of,sodium chloride. When the air or gas treated is moist, the electrolyte may be dispensed with. Several cells may be connected in series or an external current supply may be connected across a single cell. The process may be used for the removal of chlorine, bromine, fog or sulphurous vapours from air.
