Abstract
407,453. Drying-apparatus. ELSWORTH, O., c /o Tyneside Foundry & Engineering Co., Skinner Burn Road, Low Elswick, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Nov. 9, 1932, No. 31653. [Class 34 (ii).] Apparatus for drying coco nut, coffee, or cocoa beans, roots, or other produce comprises a furnace adapted to heat air, and a surface for supporting the produce, the air passing through the air heater, outwards under the surface, and inwards over the produce to a chimney, this flow being produced by the discharge into the chimney of the products of combustion from the furnace. In the form shown, tubes a situated in the combustion space of a furnace c are open to the atmosphere at one end and open into a passage e at the other end. Air-passes through these heating tubes, under the surface f, which may be of sheet metal and may be slightly perforated, and back over the produce on the surface f to the chimney q. Gases from the furnace pass through a tube r, controlled by a damper y, to the chimney, and thereby induce the air flow. Cold air may be allowed to enter through controlled openings u.
