Abstract

407,004. Rearing-appliances; feeding- appliances for animals. SARSON, G. S., Homestead Poultry Farm, Weeley, Essex. Sept. 2, 1932, No. 24536. [Class 5 (ii).] A removable trough or hopper unit, one or more of which forms or form the whole or a portion of one or both of the side walls, end walls or both of a brooder and rearer, is so formed on its inner side as to provide a cage-like rail or bar structure serving as a barrier to keep the birds in the brooder and rearer while at the same time allowing them to obtain food or water through the rail or bar structure from the trough or hopper. The unit comprises spaced vertical wires or bars 1 fixed in boards 2, 3, a slide 4 sliding on or against the wires or bars to determine the depth of the trough or hopper, which comprises a base 5, outer board 6, end walls 7 and removable glass panel 8. The brooder and rearer comprises a mesh floor and top ; or, the floor may be of removable wire mats. A carrier 10 supports a heater and the temperature is regulated by an adjustable canopy 10<a>. At first, a unit may be placed transversely of the brooder to prevent the chicks straying too far from the heater. Droppings trays are provided beneath the mesh floor. According to the Provisional Specification, the invention is applicable to poultry houses and coops and like houses for birds or other animals.
