[Class 106 (v).] In a powder delivery appliance of the kind comprising a powder receptacle 1 with a discharge outlet 3 controlled by the action of a valve 4 vertically movable relative to the outlet and a separator 7 which is normally raised slightly above the bottom 2 of the receptacle to permit a limited quantity of powder to flow into a zone near the outlet 3, and which, when powder is to be discharged, moves towards the bottom 2 of the receptacle to cut off the measured quantity of powder, which escapes upon movement of the valve to open the outlet 3, the separator normally resting upon the valve and being gravity controlled, the receptacle 1 is stationary and the valve 4 is actuated in the opening direction with consequent gravity actuation of the separator by a manipulating member 13 disposed exteriorly of the receptacle and operatively connected to the valve, e.g. by levers 9, 11, 12 and a suspension 8 which passes through the separator 7. The valve 4 has a sleeve portion 5 fitting the opening 3 to prevent discharge of powder before the measured quantity has been isolated, and has an annular boss 6 to limit its upward movement. The valve is flared to disseminate the powder as a fine spray. An outer base member 15 and a nozzle 16 direct the stream of powder in the downward direction. A spring 14 tends to keep the valve in the closed position. The actuating means for the valve may comprise a suspension extending through the top of the receptacle and normally kept in the closed position by a spring.
