Abstract
Coir is treated, prior to spinning, with a neutralized sulphonated oil which has been subjected to electrical treatment as described in Specification 363,651; the oil may be used as such or in aqueous solution. The coir is then treated, before or after spinning or weaving, with binding, waterproofing, fireproofing or lubricating materials such as bitumen or gum, fused or in solution, oils, rubber, rubber latex, or solutions of sodium or potassium silicate, aluminium acetate, or alum; powdered talc or plumbago may also be used as lubricating materials. When rubber is used, the material may afterwards be vulcanized. Coir fibre treated as described above may be woven or braided around a wire core, alone or in combination with unspun vegetable fibres, or a yarn of the treated coir may be woven with wire to produce a compound textile material; the coir fibre may also be combined with asbestos or other fibres or with the fleshy material of coir. Sheets of the treated coir may be combined and compressed by rolling, with or without interposed filling material and a binding material. The products may be used in making packings, lagging materials, brake linings, tyre reinforcements, coverings for insulated cables, hose pipes, shoe soles, belting, floor coverings, gaskets, and washers.ALSO:Coir is treated, prior to spinning, with a neutralized sulphonated oil which has been subjected to electrical treatment as described in Specification 363,651, [Group IX]. The coir is then treated, before or after spinning or weaving, with rubber or rubber latex, and vulcanized.
