[Class 132 (ii).] Apparatus for playing card games such as patience comprises one or more packs of cards in combination with a board capable of holding all the cards in a series of separate pockets arranged in vertical and horizontal rows, each of single-card width and each formed to hold the cards in such a manner that each card overlaps the greater part of the card above. The card holder comprises a series of flat stiffening pieces s of cardboard, ply-wood, etc. with a covering l of artificial leather, etc., sewn, by stitching m, n, around them so that the holder can be folded along the lines of separation of the pieces s. Narrow strips of material are left between two adjacent rows of stitching n and form pliable connections between the two stiffened sections whereby the board may be folded up. The covering l has sewn across it at their bottoms a series of strips t of artificial leather. Vertical rows of stitching divide the strips into pockets p for the cards, there being thirteen or more pockets in each vertical column. Each pocket encloses about two-thirds of the height of a card, each card nearly or just covering the front of the pocket above. Large pockets P for holding complete packs of cards can be formed along the sides of the holder by stitching the appropriate strip of leather so as to form extensible or accordion sides e to the pockets. A pressbutton fastening d is provided to maintain the board closed when folded. Batons b having tapered ends a can be used to facilitate the insertion or removal of cards, and can be slid under strips of leather o stitched across the top of the holder to hold it rigid when open. In the case of larger holders further strips o can be sewn along the bottom of the holder and held by a baton b. According to the Provisional Specification an adjustable stiffening piece may be provided at the back of the board so that it can be turned or slid into position to hold it stiff when open.
