[Class 5 (i).] In a chip-potato machine of the kind wherein the potatoes are fed against stationary crossed sets of parallel blades, said blades being arranged with their cutting edges in different planes so that the cutting is effected in successive stages, the edges of the blades are serrated or recessed at appropriately spaced points to permit only the bevelled portions which constitute the cutting edges of the blades of any one set or tier to project into the spaces between the blades of the preceding set or tier. A blade holder comprises a base ring 2 slotted on its upper side to receive a tier 1x of parallel blades, a centre ring 3 slotted on its lower and upper sides to receive respectively tiers 1y, 1z of parallel blades, and a top retaining ring 4 secured to the rings 2, 3 by screws 5. The rings 2, 3 are rebated or stepped on their outer faces to accommodate depending peripheral flanges on the rings 3, 4 respectively and the ring 2 is formed with an outwardly projecting flange or baseplate 6. More than three sets or tiers of blades may be provided, in which case the blades of each intermediate set or tier are serrated or recessed on both edges. According to the Provisional Specification, the blades are formed with coarse angular teeth.
