[Class 100 (i).] In machines for folding paper or like sheets comprising a blade 11 on one cylinder 10 which tucks the sheets between gripper-jaws 30, 31 on an adjacent cylinder 12, the blade 11 is arranged so that it is parallel to the jaws at its point of exit and so that its tip travels at the same speed as the outer edge of the folding jaws. Prying action of the blade 11 on the jaws 30, 31 and possibility of displacement of the sheets is thus prevented. The two cylinders 10, 12 are coupled together by interengaging gearwheels 35, 36, Fig. 2, the radius of the pitch circle A, Fig. 3, of the gear 35 being slightly less than the radius to the outer edge of the jaws 30, 31, and the radius to the point of the blade 11 being slightly more than the radius of the pitch circle B of the gear 36 so as to obtain the required speed relation between the blade 11 and jaws 30, 31. The blade 11 is arranged non-radially to its cylinder 10 so that as it leaves the jaws 30, 31, at the position 5e it is substantially parallel to the faces of the jaws. A recess 15 is provided in the cylinder 10 to accommodate a blade-holding block 20 which can be adjusted by screws 24. A strip 21 bolted to the block 20 engages a rib 19 on the blade 11 so as to hold the blade in position, and a spring 23 allows the blade to yield slightly.
