396,055. Dentifrices. GULBRANSEN, S. G., Larvik, Norway. Jan. 22, 1932, No. 2007. Convention date, Jan. 23, 1931. [Class 131.] A tooth paste is prepared by evaporating the juice of fruit or berries to a syrup, filling such syrup into' tubes, and then cooling, the syrup being initially of such consistency that when cooled it thickens into a paste which is selfpreserving. The juice is normally evaporated to one-third to one-fifth of its volume, but in the case of juice having a low solid content or a low percentage of constituents having a preserving character, further evaporation may be necessary. Glycerine up to 5 per cent, or a thickening agent up to 20 per cent of the final product, may be added to the juice before evaporation. Suitable thickening agents are soapstone powder, asbestos powder, prepared chalk, or clay. In examples the paste is prepared from tomato juice containing 1 per cent of glycerine, and from the juice of red whortleberries mixed with 10 per cent of prepared chalk and 1 per cent of glycerine.
