[Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (ii).] In lamp holders of the kind comprising a socket 10, Fig. 1, to receive a lamp cap, at least one contact strip 13 to press against the contact in the lamp cap, a binding post 12 in electrical connection with the strip 13, and a spring 14 to urge the strip against the lamp contact, the strip is so shaped and disposed that the spring engages it at a position situated forwardly of the rear end of the lamp cap. The strip 13 is secured to the binding post by a screw 15, and the end 16 of the strip may be bent to overhang the end face of the binding post 12 to prevent lateral movement. In a modification, Fig. 3, the lamp holder is inverted relatively to that shown in Fig. 1, and the contact strips 13 are secured on the rear face of the binding post 12, being urged downwardly by helical springs 14 on headed posts 17. The binding post, contact strip, and spring together form a unit which may be mounted adjacent to a lamp socket on an insulating base 11, as shown, for attachment to either a batten or a reflector 21, Fig. 4, formed with a rearwardly extending tubular neck 19 provided with lateral flanges 20 on to which the insulating base 11 is secured. The unit may be mounted within an insulating cover provided with a bayonet socket to receive the lamp cap.
