Abstract
372,878. Door fastenings. SLOPE, A. J., 45, Broadwater Avenue, Letchworth, Hertfordshire. March 7, 1931, No. 7142. [Class 44.] A fastening for a sliding door &c. which is released by force applied to the handle in a direction to open the door has means for holding the catch in released position until the door is closed. The device comprises a pair of inturned hook members 12 projecting from a casing 1 within which they are pivoted at 11 and engaging a T-form striking member 27 on the door post under the action of springs 13. Handles 31 at opposite sides of the door are pivoted at their lower ends and are connected at their upper ends to a spindle 16 slidable along slots in the casing and carrying a cam 15 adapted to engage inclined members 14 on the members 12, which are thus separated to release the fastening when a handle is moved to the right, Fig. 2. A member 20 carried by a slidable rod 18 and acted on by a spring 22 engages shoulders 21 on members 14 to retain members 12 in the release position when the door has been opened, the outer end of rod 18 then projectiog from the casing. When the door is closed, the rod is forced inwards by contact with member 27, thus freeing members 12 and allowing them to engage member 27. To prevent damage to dress &c. by the hooks 12 and member 27, pairs of guard plates 24, 28 are provided having tapered guide surfaces which fit together when the door is closed. Wood-fibre &c. blocks 29 on one pair of plates engage recesses 30 in the other pair to prevent rattle.
