[Class 20 (iii).] A protective device for a window A, Fig. 1, comprises a hinged steel or like frame B the bars of which coincide with the glazing bars or like elements of the window structure, and the hinges C and fastening device of which are shrouded in order to prevent any unauthorized interference therewith. In the form shown, the fixed leaf of each hinge C is secured to the underside of a bar E, Fig. 4, which extends along one vertical edge of the fixed window frame A<1> to which it is secured by bolts F. The casement frame A is hinged at D. Recesses G are provided in the bar E and/or the frame B to house the pintles of the hinges C, D, in such a manner as to prevent their removal. Bosses I, Fig. 2, are carried by the frame B, each of which is adapted to enter a recess K in the fixed frame A<1>. The frame B is held in the closed position by bolts M each of which is inserted through hole L from the inner side of the window and engages with a screw-threaded hole S in the boss. When the bolt is screwed home, its head N rests within a recess K ; the bolt-head is preferably of an unusual shape, thus necessitating the employment of a special box spanner O to turn it. Clips H fastened to the casement frame and embracing the frame B, connect the frames and at the same time permit any slight relative movement during the opening and closing operations. Alternatively, a pin-andslot connection is employed. For double casements, the free edge of one frame B overlaps the second frame, one frame being joggled so that the outer surfaces are flush.
