Abstract

365,409. Feedwater supply systems for steam boilers. ATLAS-WERKE AKT.- GES., 16, Stephanikirchenweide, Bremen, Germany. March 24, 1931, No. 9034. Convention date, March 12. [Class 123 (ii).] Steam from a ship's engine 1 is passed to a main condenser 2 from which the condensate is forced by a pump 7 through a pipe 14 to a deaerator 11 mounted on a warm water tank 10 of large capacity fixed so high in the ship that there is a positive pressure in the suction pipe 12 of the feed pump 13 to prevent re-admission of air to the treated water. The deaerator is heated by low pressure steam from pipe 23. If the supply of feed water to the tank is too great, a float 20 opens a valve 22 in the pipe 30 and diverts the water into a feed-water tank 9, from which it can be withdrawn by pipe 28 when required. The boiler feed from the pump 13 is passed through preheaters 24, 25, heated by high-pressure steam, from which the condensate is returned by pipe 27 directly to the tank 10. Condensate from a steam-heated sea water evaporator 34 may be returned in the same way
