Abstract
353,812. Surface condensers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO., East Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Smith, J. H. ; 57, North Ardmore Avenue, Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) Dec. 3, 1930, No. 36436. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1929. [Class 64 (iii).] In a single-pass or multi-pass condenser with tubes extending between inlet and outlet waterboxes 17, 18 and with one or more longitudinal tube-free air passages 19 wholly or partly within the tube-nest, means for cooling the air is embodied in the tube-nest near the air outlet which is near the cold-water inlet. As shown, a single-pass condenser is provided with intermediate tube plates 21 having apertures 26 in the tube-free passage 19. Baffles 29, 31 in the passage 19, and 32, 33 in the tube-nest, cause the air flowing along the passage 19 to circulate among the innermost tubes near the cold end. A two-pass condenser is also described.
