Abstract
353,006. Linkwork. WATTS, R. E., 30, Tinwell Road, Stamford, Lincolnshire. Jan. 17, 1930, Nos. 1639 and 8382. [Class 80 (iii).] Means for converting reciprocating into rotary motion and vice versa, particularly in engines, pumps and compressers, comprises a link 7 one end of which is coupled to the crank by a universal joint while the other reciprocates so as to cross the axis of the crank shaft in a direction at right-angles thereto. The link moves between positions in which it is in line with an oblique crank pin 3 and is always inclined to a plane containing the piston axis and normal to the crank shaft. The crank pin 13, Fig. 9, of a Z crank shaft is enclosed in a sleeve 14, or rotates in bearings in the crank, and trunnions 16 carry the link. The arms 18, 19 of the link are spaced to clear the crank-web 12 and connected to the stirrup-shaped lower end of the piston-rod by eccentrically mounted pivot pins.
