Abstract

352,703. Refloating stranded ships. KINGHORN, R., 158, Fenchurch Street, London. June 23, 1930, No. 19075. [Class 68 (ii).] A device for refloating a stranded ship comprises a member, e.g. a wire or rope 2, Fig. 2, extending fore and aft alongside the ship, and adapted to transport the bow anchor to the stern. The fore end of the rope 2 is connected to the ship or to a windlass, and the stern end is passed through sheaves &c. 3, 4 to a winch 5. The wire &c. 2 is supported on the outer ends of the members 6, Figs. 2 and 4, which is grooved at 9 to allow the passage of the rims of a pulley 12, forming part of a carrier 11, with a slip shackle for the bow anchor. The members 6 are supported slidably in casings, into which they may be bolted, and when extended are stayed by wires 21. In a modification, the wire &c. 2 is replaced by a rubbing- strake 25, Fig. 9, attached to the side 1 of the ship, on which a carrier 11 may be run to transport the anchor.
