Abstract

351,004. Bullets. GERLICH, H. E. G. T.. 71, Duppelstrasse, Kiel, Germany. March 15, 1930, No. 8389. [Class 9 (i).] A bullet of lead or other relatively soft metal, of the kind having a coneshaped rear portion, is provided with a non-metallic heat and shock resisting coating, which is applied in the form of a more or less fluid solution and is selfadhesive. As shown in the Figure, the protective coating 4 extends over the cone-shaped rear portion of the bullet 1. The bullet may be provided with one or more circumferential grooves 10 and a further groove or cannelure 7 may be provided at the point at which the conical part of the bullet joins the cylindrical part. The coating extends into the cannelure 7, the latter also serving to receive the mouth of the cartridge case. The cannelure is relatively shallow and, in the case of a bullet of 0 À22 calibre, is approximately 0À1 to 0À2 mm. in depth. The thickness of the coating 4 of a bullet of this calibre is approximately 0.1 to 0.2 mm. The coating may be a fireproof lacquer, elastic enamel, or such materials as those registered under the names of "Cellon" or " Cellophane," which may be impregnated with substances to increase their capacity for resisting heat, friction, and shocks. These materials may dry with an initial polish or may have a capacity for being polished. The coating solution may be applied in a warm or cold condition. In a modification, the coating extends only over the conical part of the bullet, while in another modification the bullet is completely covered.
