[Class 36.] Instead of effecting balancing of a submarine cable in artificial lines, balancing elements, such as those for reducing electrostatic or electromagnetic cross-talk or for balancing earth effects, are placed in sleeves within the submarine cable. The sleeves are preferably provided with openings which may be closed in watertight and pressure-tight manner so that, after raising the sleeve, the balancing elements may be rapidly removed or exchanged.
