Abstract

350,005. Rectifying alternating current. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. March 3, 1930, No. 6905. Convention date, March 20, 1929. Addition to 279,045, [Class 38 (ii), Electric currents, Converting &c.]. [Class 38 (ii).] Vapour apparatus, arrangements of.-In metallic vapour rectifier installations in which a polyphase rectifier is provided with means for suppressing back ignitions as described in the parent Specification and wherein the rectifier 2 operates in parallel with another source of direct current 4, an automatic switch 5 adapted to open in the event of reverse current, current flowing to the rectifier is provided in the connection between the rectifier and the source 4 thus introducing a resistance 6 sufficient to extinguish the reverse arc, the switch then closing automatically. Opening is effected by a coil 7 in the connection between the rectifier and the source 4, whilst a coil 8 in series with the resistance 6 maintains the switch open until the reverse current falls to zero. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown), the switch is adapted also to connect a resistance in parallel with the rectifier. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the switch 5 may break the connection between the rectifier and the source 4, the resistance 6 being dispensed with. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
