[Class 106 (iv).] A recording device for measuring instruments more particularly oscillographs comprises a movable record-strip and a marking element carried by an arm oscillatable about an axis through a predetermined amplitude at a constant or variable angular velocity in accordance with a given law. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a shaft 5, oscillatable about an axis 7, 8, has attached thereto an arm 11 balanced by a counterweight 12 and carrying a support 13 for a pen or other marking arm 14 under the control of a spring 16 and a thread or other flexible member 19 extending along the arm 11 and passing through a right-angled channel in the shaft 5 to the pointer 2 of the oscillograph or other instrument 1. The oscillating movement of the arm 11 may be produced by known means such as described in Specification 334,778, [Class 106 (iv), Indicating &c.]. The marking element is constituted as a pen 17 dipping into an inkwell 28 or may be similar to that described in Specification 337,218, [Class 146 (iii), Writing appliances &c.]. The pen 17 co-operates with a record strip 4 adapted to be advanced between successive recording movements by electromagnetic means. The strip is arranged at right-angles to the shaft 5 and has one edge in the plane of the axis of the shaft. The support 13, Figs. 3 and 5, constitutes a bearing for a member 30 provided with a fork 29 carrying the marking arm 14 and has an extension pin 31 adapted to engage end stops 32, 33 for the purpose of throwing the pen 17 into and out of contact with the record strip during alternate oscillations. The strip is marked with lines representing time in a direction parallel to its edge in accordance with the law governing the angular movement of the arm 11.
